For 15 years’ service with clasps for each additional 10-year term. Instituted in 1975 but were replaced in 1982 by the DFSM, the RFD and the RFM which in turn were all replaced by the DLSM in 1998.  The National Medal continues to be issued to non ADF organisations such as police, fire , and ambulance services etc.
